“We are pleased to announce that the world’s largest passenger elevator is by KONE, and it is in India!” announces Amit Gossain, Managing Director, KONE Elevators India.
It’s the size of a studio apartment, weighs 16 tons and can carry over 200 people at a time between five floors. KONE’s new elevator at the Jio World Centre in the Indian financial capital truly takes People Flow to a new level.
Designed to cater for large wedding groups or high volumes of conference or exhibition visitors, the 25.78m2 elevator offers all-round scenic views of the newly opened convention centre and its gardens.
The elevator uses KONE technology to carry users between five stops smoothly and efficiently, maximising People Flow at the large convention and exhibition centre.
“At KONE, we pride ourselves in offering custom-built solutions for unique projects. Besides our KONE India team, the KONE Global team of Major Projects experts collaborated with us to design and deliver this most challenging and complex project,” Gossain says.
“Together with our customers, not only do we innovate and create solutions that users appreciate, but also create an experience that they can't find anywhere else,” he added.
Energy-saving connectivity
Because of its enormous size, the elevator is supported by 18 pulleys and 9 ropes using an innovative pulley beam system to ensure safety and efficiency. The entire structural shaft moves on rails fixed over steel columns.
The hoisting machine is the heavy duty KONE EcoDisk® MX100 – making it not just super strong and durable but also energy saving. The elevator is fitted with KONE E-Link™, a comprehensive facility management tool feature that makes it possible to remotely monitor the elevator.
Crystal-studded interior
Mumbai’s Jio World Centre is India’s new landmark business and cultural destination, housing a total of 188 KONE installations, including 5 freight elevators, 74 guest and service elevators, 78 escalators and 30 guest elevators.
A unique four-panel glass door opens onto the record-sized passenger elevator, which travels between five floors at a speed of one metre per second, making it especially suited to transporting large groups of users.
Glass walls offer panoramic views while two info screens offer building news and updates. An ornate, crystal-studded ceiling light forms the centrepiece of the elevator’s elegant interior, which continues the lotus theme which runs throughout the Jio World Centre’s interior design.
The end-result is a stylish and memorable user experience, born out of a perfect blend of engineering, art and architecture.
